King Cirox 2 Phinisi
Komodo trekking and snorkelling by boat: the effort, stop by stop, on King Cirox 2
Updated 11 October 2026
The 3D2N open trip on King Cirox 2 Phinisi packs two hill climbs (Kelor, then Padar or Gili Lawa, chosen at booking subject to the park's quota), a ranger-led dragon walk and five snorkel stops into three days, from IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) per person. The longest climb is Padar, 25 to 45 minutes. A 4D3N charter, IDR 58,500,000 (≈ USD 3,589) for up to five, adds a day of trekking and reef.
Climbs and the ranger walk
Measure the effort in minutes. Kelor, on day one, is 15 to 30 minutes up a short, steep, dry path to a viewpoint over the bay. Padar, on day two, puts the main viewpoint over three bays 25 to 45 minutes above the landing, longer if you push on to the upper ridge; parts of the path are loose. The Komodo walk is 45 to 120 minutes on easier ground with little shade, and nobody walks it without a park ranger.
The open-trip booklet prints two pairs on day two, Padar or Gili Lawa and Komodo village or Rinca, and you pick one of each at booking. If Padar's daily quota is full, the boat goes to Gili Lawa and you climb there instead; if Komodo's is, the dragon walk moves to Rinca. Neither swap shortens the day.
Sturdy shoes matter more than fitness. A guest who walks an hour at home handles both climbs; the problem is grip on loose ground and the heat in the middle of the day. Pack closed shoes, a hat and a litre of water for each walk, then read the day-by-day route below.

Tide and wind decide whether these stops trade places: Manta Point ⇄ Taka Makassar.
Treat the times as planning figures, not a timetable; the sea sets the real ones. The pickup is the one time we hold ourselves to.
Time in the water
Five snorkel stops in three days, one of them hard. Manjarite on day one is a snorkel off a long wooden pier. Pink Beach on day two has reef close to the shore at 1 to 8 metres. Manta Point is the hard one: a drift along the reef in a strong current, 3 to 15 metres deep, for confident swimmers. Taka Makassar follows, a crescent sandbar with reef at 1 to 5 metres, visible at low tide. Day three ends with a beach and a snorkel at Seture.
Between stops there is the paddle board, printed in the open-trip booklet, and a canoe, printed in both. Strawberry Rock on day one, with its pinkish-red rocks, is conditional and depends on the sea that afternoon.
Masks and snorkels come with the boat; fins do not, and in the Manta Point current that gap is felt in the legs, so pack a pair or hire them in town before pickup. Check the included list below for what else you do not need to pack.

More days, more ground
The open trip runs only as 3D2N. For more ground you charter the whole boat. For one to five people a 4D3N is IDR 58,500,000 (≈ USD 3,589) and a 5D4N IDR 65,500,000 (≈ USD 4,018); larger groups move into the six-to-ten and eleven-to-fifteen bands.
The 4D3N follows the route in the boat's booklet: Kelor, Manjarite and Kalong on day one; Padar, Komodo and Pink Beach on day two; a Gili Lawa trek, Manta Point, Taka Makassar and Siaba on day three; Kanawa and Seture on day four before Labuan Bajo. That is three climbs, two of them on consecutive mornings, and six snorkel stops.
The 5D4N keeps the first three days and replaces the last with two more: Senator, Kanawa and Sabolon on day four, then Rangko Cave and Seture on day five. On a charter of any length the guide is not included and is quoted separately. Pick your length from the per-person table below.

The bag for an active trip
Our packing list has five lines: sandals or shoes for trekking, a backpack, emergency cash, personal medicines and sunblock. Add four of ours for an active trip.
- Closed shoes with grip for Padar and the ranger walk.
- Fins, because the kit on board has none.
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a hat: Taka Makassar has almost no shade.
- A small dry bag for the tender rides.
The route notes ask for a soft bag at pickup, not a hard suitcase. Pickup itself is between 10:00 and 11:00 on day one, from any Labuan Bajo hotel or LBJ, at no charge.
A limit, stated plainly. This is a trekking-and-snorkelling boat. Diving is not on the menu: no compressor and no tanks are listed. If your idea of adventure needs a tank on your back, the fit list below says so, and the diving page explains how to combine both.
Who this boat suits
- Solo travellers who want to pay for one bed: a Gresik bunk is sold on its own at IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206), with no empty second place to cover.
- Couples who want a balcony: Malang has one, and Madiun adds a wooden bathtub in the open air.
- Families of four: Malang, Kediri and Madiun each take a double bed plus extra beds, and children under 3 travel free.
- Groups of up to 23 who take all 6 cabins of a 24.8 m phinisi with 6 crew as a private charter.
- Guests who need to stay reachable: Starlink Wi-Fi on board is printed in the boat's booklets, with no promise of speed.
Who it does not suit
- Divers who need tanks and a compressor aboard: this is a snorkel boat.
- Snorkellers who expect fins in the kit: the boat carries a mask and a snorkel only.
- Charter groups who need a private bathroom for every guest: Gresik's four bunks share one.
- Guests who need a lift or stabilisers: stairs join the two decks and the roof, and no stabilisers are listed.
Who this boat does not suit
- You book Gresik expecting a private cabin: it is a four-bunk room with a shared bathroom.
- You travel alone and want a private cabin at a one-person fare: private cabins are sold for two paying guests at least; your per-bed option is a Gresik bunk.
- You need an open-trip start on a day other than Monday or Friday: open-trip starts are Mondays and Fridays; sailings outside Monday and Friday run on request, so ask us on WhatsApp; and a few dates are taken by private charters.
FAQ
How fit do I need to be for the Padar climb?
Able to walk uphill for 25 to 45 minutes on a path that is steep and loose in places. Grip matters more than speed.
Is the paddle board available on a private charter?
The paddle board is printed in the open-trip booklet; the charter booklet lists the canoe. If you want the paddle board on a charter, we confirm it in writing with your quote.
Is there a longer dragon walk than the standard one?
The park has short, medium and long trails from the ranger station, and day itineraries take the shorter ones. If you want a longer trail, say so at booking; the request goes to the guide.
Does the open trip ever run four days?
No. The open trip is 3D2N every Monday & Friday, with a 2D1N option on the same sailing. Four and five days are whole-boat charters only, priced by guest band: IDR 63,750,000 (≈ USD 3,911) for six to ten guests on 4D3N, IDR 72,750,000 (≈ USD 4,463) on 5D4N. If you are four friends who want the extra day, compare that 4D3N figure for one to five, IDR 58,500,000 (≈ USD 3,589), with four open-trip fares; the per-person table on the charter page does the division for you.
Is a guide needed for the treks on a private charter?
On Komodo or Rinca a park ranger leads every walk, paid with the park levies. The boat's own local guide comes with the open trip; on a charter the guide is on request and quoted separately.
