Joining a Komodo open trip solo: the date, the bunk and the company on King Cirox 2

Updated 11 October 2026

On King Cirox 2 Phinisi a solo traveller books one bunk in Gresik, the four-bunk share cabin: IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) for the 3D2N open trip or IDR 2,900,000 (≈ USD 178) for 2D1N, with a shared bathroom. Private cabins are sold for at least two paying guests. Departures leave every Monday & Friday; the next is Monday, 12 October 2026.

One person, one bunk

A single traveller pays a single fare here: IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) for three days and two nights. On the 2D1N option of the same sailing the bunk costs IDR 2,900,000 (≈ USD 178). Nothing else on the boat is cheaper, and nothing else is sold to one person.

Gresik sits on the main deck: four single bunks stacked in two pairs, an ikat cloth thrown over each upper bunk, an LG air conditioner on the wall and a window at the far end. It has power sockets, towels and linen like the other cabins.

What it does not have is its own bathroom. Gresik uses the one shared bathroom on board; the other five cabins have private ones. The booklet does not say whether bunks are allocated by gender, so if that matters to you, ask when you book and we answer in writing. Then look at the fare table below.

The two-guest rule

Every private cabin on King Cirox 2 needs two paying guests, the booklet's rule in place of a single supplement, and it means a solo traveller in Surabaya pays for two places: twice IDR 4,300,000 (≈ USD 264). In Madiun, the balcony cabin with the tub, the sum is twice IDR 5,400,000 (≈ USD 331).

Set that against a Gresik bunk and the gap is plain. The difference buys you a private bathroom and a door of your own for two nights.

Plainly, then: pay it if the door matters to you; take the bunk if it does not. If you are travelling alone but meeting a friend in Labuan Bajo, book the private cabin together and split it. If you are sure you want a cabin to yourself on a particular date, send us the date and we tell you which doors are still unsold. The cabin cards below show every option side by side.

Departures and company

The open trip leaves every Monday & Friday, and 127 start dates are listed from today to the end of 2027. You choose a date; the boat does the rest. Pickup comes to your hotel or the airport between 10:00 and 11:00 on day one, at no charge, and you are back in Labuan Bajo by the same hours on day three.

On a shared trip, the company is part of the deal. Meals are served at the dining-room table, so you eat with the other guests three times a day. The roof deck and the bow nets are where people talk after the snorkel stops. A local guide is on board for the whole trip, and so is a documentation crew with a GoPro, a mirrorless camera and a drone. You do not need to hand your phone to a stranger for a photo at Padar.

The dates block below lists every start; ask us which bunks are still free on yours, then hold one before someone else does.

Packing for one

A solo trip leaves nobody to borrow from, so pack for the gaps. The first aid kit is basic, which makes your own medicines the first thing in the bag; add sunblock and a little emergency cash, as our list asks.

Pack light: the cabin holds four bunks and one extra bed, and the aisle between the bunk stacks is narrow. Carry your passport on the day. The harbour's electronic boarding pass checks that the name on it matches the manifest, so the name you give us when booking must be the one in your passport.

Starlink Wi-Fi is on board for messages home; we promise no speed, and phone signal between islands is patchy. Tell someone your departure date and the boat's name, King Cirox 2 Phinisi, before you board. Land in Labuan Bajo the day before; a late flight on sailing morning can cost you the trip. Read the fit list below, then message us your date.

Who this boat suits

  • Solo travellers who want to pay for one bed: a Gresik bunk is sold on its own at IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206), with no empty second place to cover.
  • Couples who want a balcony: Malang has one, and Madiun adds a wooden bathtub in the open air.
  • Families of four: Malang, Kediri and Madiun each take a double bed plus extra beds, and children under 3 travel free.
  • Groups of up to 23 who take all 6 cabins of a 24.8 m phinisi with 6 crew as a private charter.
  • Guests who need to stay reachable: Starlink Wi-Fi on board is printed in the boat's booklets, with no promise of speed.

Who it does not suit

  • Divers who need tanks and a compressor aboard: this is a snorkel boat.
  • Snorkellers who expect fins in the kit: the boat carries a mask and a snorkel only.
  • Charter groups who need a private bathroom for every guest: Gresik's four bunks share one.
  • Guests who need a lift or stabilisers: stairs join the two decks and the roof, and no stabilisers are listed.

Who this boat does not suit

  • You book Gresik expecting a private cabin: it is a four-bunk room with a shared bathroom.
  • You travel alone and want a private cabin at a one-person fare: private cabins are sold for two paying guests at least; your per-bed option is a Gresik bunk.
  • You need an open-trip start on a day other than Monday or Friday: open-trip starts are Mondays and Fridays; sailings outside Monday and Friday run on request, so ask us on WhatsApp; and a few dates are taken by private charters.

FAQ

Who else sleeps in the Gresik share cabin?

Other open-trip guests who booked a bunk, up to four in total, or five if the extra bed is taken. Bunk allocation by gender is not printed in the booklet. Ask us before you pay anything.

Is there a single supplement on King Cirox 2?

None is printed. A private cabin simply needs two paying guests, so one person in it pays for both places.

Is a guide included for someone travelling alone?

Yes, on the open trip. A local guide and the documentation crew sail with every open-trip departure and are part of your bunk fare, IDR 3,350,000 (≈ USD 206) for 3D2N or IDR 2,900,000 (≈ USD 178) for 2D1N.

Is a Komodo boat safe for someone travelling alone?

On King Cirox 2 you travel with a crew of 6, a local guide and the other open-trip guests, and the boat's safety list runs from a liferaft and life jackets to a first aid kit and AIS. Your name goes on the harbour's electronic manifest before departure, which is why it must match your passport. Practical precautions are the ones you would take anywhere: keep your passport and cash in your bag, tell someone at home the boat's name and your dates, and read the booking terms before you pay.

How early should I book a bunk if I travel solo?

As early as you can fix the date. Gresik has four bunks per sailing; once they are sold, the places left for one person are Gresik's extra bed, whose fare is printed in the fare table, or a private cabin under the two-guest rule.
